Would you like to explore nature in Slovenia? Then in addition to the impressive Triglav National Park and the Soča Valley, be sure to remember the beautiful Logar Valley. The Logar Valley is considered one of the most stunning glacial valleys in Europe and is located in northern Slovenia, specifically in the Solčava region.
The Logar Valley is known for its unique green nature and captivates visitors with untouched spots in this remarkable landscape. Explore the valley along the natural-science and ethnographic trail, which will guide you through the valley’s most scenic areas. You’ll discover rare and endangered plant species and be enchanted by the rich diversity of colors. In particular, the various alpine flowers and mountain meadows are true highlights.
But it’s not just the plant life that will fascinate you — the valley’s wildlife will, too. Bring a pair of binoculars and watch for soaring golden eagles and peregrine falcons. Spot skilled climbers like ibex and chamois. Also noteworthy are the native Jezersko–Solčava sheep, a breed found only in Slovenia.
If you’re particularly interested in plant diversity, make sure to visit the Okrešelj Cirque. This area is a true botanical oasis that hosts a variety of unique plant species, including rare lady’s slipper orchids, Carniolan lilies, Kamnik orchids, and many others.
Okrešelj lies below the rock walls of the peaks Mrzla Gora, Turska Gora, Rinke, and Križ. Nestled within the backdrop of these giants, the valley forms a natural amphitheater. Don’t miss this natural spectacle — let yourself be enchanted by the extraordinary scenery. Okrešelj is also the location of the Rinka Waterfall.
The magnificent waterfalls of Logar Valley include the 90-meter-high Rinka Waterfall, surrounded by an awe-inspiring landscape with 2,000-meter peaks. Rinka is one of the most beautiful, well-known, and most-visited waterfalls in all of Slovenia. Don’t miss your chance to witness this natural wonder — especially popular with tourists during the summer.
The Rinka Waterfall is easily accessible on foot. You can take one of the hiking trails from Solčava that runs through the Logar Valley — it takes only 15 to 20 minutes to reach the falls. If you wish to drive to the waterfall, keep in mind that an entrance fee for the landscape park applies during spring and summer.
In addition to Rinka, another waterfall adorns the unique Logar Valley: the Palenk Waterfall, located on the eastern valley side and already designated a natural monument. Its waters cascade down rocky steps, falling 78 meters. Above the main fall, several smaller waterfalls can also be discovered.
More captivating waterfalls can be found on the left slope of the valley. Don’t miss the Brložnica Waterfalls, a true highlight! Here you’ll also find the Brložnica Cave, from which the Brložnica stream emerges. It plunges from an elevation of 1,222 meters to a depth of 125 meters in a dramatic display. The stream divides into four distinct waterfalls, each adding to the natural beauty of the landscape. Not far from the waterfall, you can also discover a natural window in the rock face — with a hiking trail passing right underneath it.
The Logar Valley is the perfect place for active holidays. Explore nearby mountains on foot using the well-marked hiking trails. You can also discover nature by bike or go climbing. Don’t forget to capture your memories with photos — the scenery is truly breathtaking.
The valley is also ideal for children. Its forests seem like something out of a fairy tale, inviting kids to let their imaginations run wild. They can search for different mythical creatures and enjoy playful adventures in the woods.
The Logar Valley is just as inviting in winter. Cold temperatures won’t stop you from enjoying outdoor activities. These include cross-country skiing, sledding, alpine racing, or skiing. A very special winter highlight is ice climbing on frozen waterfalls, with Palenk Waterfall being a particularly popular spot. Let the valley’s wide array of options inspire you!
Interested in experiencing traditional Slovenian culture amid the stunning backdrop of the Logar Valley? Then you should check out the wooden granaries. Known locally as "kaste" or "lesene kašče", these granaries are iconic for the region. In the past, they were used by farmers to store food and grain — and some are still used for that purpose today.
This chapel was initially designed by Jože Plečnik at the request of valley residents, but the construction ultimately followed plans by architect Martin Golob. You’ll find the chapel at the entrance of the Logar Valley, near the road to Pavličevo sedlo. The chapel is not only a window into the valley’s history but also offers a wonderful panoramic view of the surroundings.
